This got a series of phone calls going, like all families, we are complicated and in this case it is not straight forward as who talks to whom, and I do happen to be one of the information gatekeepers…. In this case this great-aunt, a spinster par excellence, she had spend a lot of her time with me and I do have fond memories of her. Those news took care of the next two hours as made arrangements to attend the funeral.
I was ever good, not even when I tried and failed. All of this gibberish is to introduce the fact that I have arrived at the conclusion that it is time to reinvent myself, and do some serious reinvention of me. Alright I have been toying with the idea ever since I quit, partly out of free volition, and partly because I did not have much of a choice that I wanted to live with, my last salaried job at what is still affectionately referred to as the Swiss Patent Office (www.ige.ch) and that was back in 2002.
The original story was written by Chuck Palahniuk, the screenplay by Jim Uhls, then David Fincher directed the movie and certainly the actors playing Jack, Tyler and Marla do put in their own expression on the characters and story…. The other two movies, Syriana and L’ivresse du pouvoir, both deal with exactly the same issue, but in a rather different way.
I open my mouth at a conference and say something, and later some people come and ask “Who are you?”Other times is that I listen in on some casual conversation at some cultural event, and then make a short remark, or ask a not so innocent question, and once more I am faced with the question of who I might be.Historically my reaction is to laugh, or just mimic that all so pleasant habit that I associate with my former colleague Ron Shen of just smiling.  You see, I want to prove here and now that I am as good at name dropping as the bloke next door, and I associate that habit of smiling when faced with a specific type of question that leaves me at odds for an answer, and non-linear optics with Ron Shen.
